Moving a website to a new platform and server: a developer and a business owner comparing the old and new versions of the site

The site is slow, hosting crashes right in peak season, and your developer just shrugs: “this platform can’t do that”. Moving to a proper platform is long overdue, but you’re afraid of losing what took years to build: search rankings, thousands of products, articles, links from ads and other websites. One careless move — and pages drop out of search, website leads sag, and winning the traffic back takes a long time.

Website migration at Giant4 IT is a planned move, not “copy it and switch it on”. First we take a snapshot of the old site: every page URL, title, ranking and traffic figure. Then we migrate products, articles, customers and orders, set up a 301 redirect for every changed URL, and reconnect and test 1C, the CRM, payments and delivery. We switch over only once the new site is tested, and keep the old version on standby. Changing the platform, moving to new hosting or to your own server — the process is the same: no loss of rankings or data, no pause in sales.

What turnkey website migration includes

  • Audit and snapshot of the old siteWe crawl the old site and export every page URL, title and meta tag, plus rankings and traffic from Yandex Webmaster, Metrica and Google Search Console. This is the baseline: after the move we check every page against it.
  • Choosing the platform and server1C-Bitrix — for a store with a large catalog and 1C sync; Next.js — for a fast, lightweight site. We pick hosting or a server for your load and budget, not “whatever the previous contractor used”.
  • Data migration without manual copyingProducts with specs, photos, variants and prices, categories, articles, reviews, customers and order history are migrated automatically, not by hand. We compare the counts before and after — nothing gets lost on the way.
  • Page URLs and 301 redirectsWhere possible, we keep URLs as they were. Where a URL changes, we set up a permanent redirect to the new one: the search engine passes the rankings on, and links from ads, social media and other sites keep working.
  • SEO settings without lossesWe carry over titles, descriptions, copy and structured data, update the sitemap and robots.txt and submit them to Yandex Webmaster and Google Search Console. If the domain changes, we register the move in both services.
  • Integrations: connected and tested1C sync, CRM, online payments, delivery, lead forms, Metrica with goals and product feeds — we connect them on the new site and check them with test orders before the switch.
  • Switchover with zero downtimeWe build the new site on a test address while the old one keeps working and selling. We switch over at the hours with the fewest orders and keep the old version on standby to roll back quickly if anything fails.
  • Monitoring after the moveFor the first weeks we monitor indexing, “page not found” errors, speed and rankings, compare them with the snapshot and fix anything that comes up right away.

Who needs website migration

  • Online stores that have outgrown Tilda, WordPress or a site builder: the catalog is slow, 1C sync can’t be set up and the store has no room to grow
  • Companies whose site runs on an old or custom-built platform that hasn’t been updated for years and depends on a single developer
  • Businesses whose hosting crashes, slows down in peak season or can’t handle ad traffic — time to move to new hosting or your own server
  • Businesses moving a site from foreign hosting to Russian hosting, including to keep customer data stored in Russia
  • Wholesale and manufacturing companies merging several old sites into one or moving to a new domain

How moving a site to a new platform or server works

  1. Call and assessmentYou tell us what’s wrong with your current site. We look at the platform, hosting, data volume and integrations and estimate the scope of work. The consultation is free and comes with no obligation.
  2. Migration plan and estimateWe write down what moves where, which URLs change, how we set up redirects and when we switch over. Price and timeline are fixed in the contract.
  3. Snapshot, new site and data migrationWe take a snapshot of the old site: page URLs, titles, rankings. We deploy the new site on a test address, migrate the data and connect 1C, the CRM, payments and delivery. All this time the old site keeps working as usual.
  4. Testing and acceptanceWe check every page against the snapshot: URLs, titles, redirects, forms, cart, payments, 1C sync. We test on desktop and mobile — you accept the new site before the switch.
  5. SwitchoverWe point the domain to the new site at a quiet time for sales and notify search engines about the move. The old version stays on standby, and any orders that came in on it are transferred.
  6. Monitoring and handoverWe monitor indexing, errors and rankings and fix whatever comes up. We hand over access, code and documentation and, if you wish, take the site on support under contract.

Why order your website migration from us

  • We sell through our own websitesGiant4 IT is a studio within the Giant4 group of companies: lighting, our own online stores giant4.ru and giant4.ae, and sales on Wildberries and Ozon. In IT since 2022. For us, search means real orders, so we treat your site’s rankings as if they were our own.

  • Integrations tested on ourselvesOur own CRM, an AI assistant that takes orders right in the chat, a CDEK and Russian Post delivery module, product feeds for Yandex and AI assistants — we built and tested all of it on our own business. On your new site we connect whatever you need.
  • Fixed price, and the site is yoursWe fix the price in the contract before we start. After the move, the code, access and data belong to you; we recommend registering the domain and hosting in your company’s name — no lock-in to the contractor.

Pricing

from $1,350

The price depends on what moves where: a move to new hosting without changing the platform is closer to the lower end; a platform change with catalog and integration migration costs more. Other factors: the number of products and articles, how many page URLs change, whether the design moves as is or gets refreshed, connections to 1C, CRM, payments and delivery, and a domain change. Hosting, server and licenses are quoted separately and in advance.

Prices exclude VAT. We confirm the exact cost and timeline after a short call and fix them in the contract.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to migrate a website to a new platform or hosting?

From $1,350 for a standard project. The total depends on the size of the catalog and articles, the number of changing page URLs, the design on the new platform and integrations with 1C, CRM, payments and delivery. We name the exact amount after a call, once we’ve looked at the site, and fix it in the contract. Prices exclude VAT.

How do you migrate a website without losing rankings in Yandex and Google?

The key is that nothing disappears for the search engine. Where possible we keep page URLs, set up 301 redirects for the changed ones, carry over titles, descriptions, copy and structured data, update the sitemap and notify search engines about the move. Short ranking fluctuations are possible after any migration, so for the first weeks we compare indexing and rankings against the old site’s snapshot and fix any discrepancies right away.

Will the website be down during the migration?

No. We build and test the new site on a test address while the old one keeps working and taking orders. We switch over during quiet hours and transfer any orders that came in on the old version to the new one. If anything goes wrong, we quickly bring back the old version.

Can a website be moved from Tilda to another platform?

Yes. You can’t simply copy pages out of Tilda: forms, the cart and the catalog run on its services. So we rebuild the pages on the new platform — 1C-Bitrix, Next.js or another one that fits the task — and migrate the copy, photos, products and page URLs. The design is reproduced as it was or refreshed — your call.

How do you move an online store to 1C-Bitrix together with products and orders?

Products with specs, photos, variants and prices, catalog categories, customers and order history are migrated automatically, and we compare the counts before and after. On Bitrix we set up 1C sync, online payments and delivery right away. That’s how our own store works: stock levels from 1C update automatically every few minutes.

How long does a website migration take?

It depends on the volume and on what changes. Moving a site to new hosting or a new server without changing the platform is the fastest option; a platform change with catalog and integration migration takes longer. We give exact dates after a call, fix them in the contract and show interim results every week.

What happens to the domain, email and SSL certificate during the move?

The domain stays yours — we only change where it points. We move domain email, the SSL certificate and DNS records so that emails keep arriving and the site opens over HTTPS without browser warnings. If the domain itself changes, we set up redirects from the old address to the new one and notify search engines about the move.
